McDavid Hex Leg Sleeve Review
Review:
The McDavid Hex Leg Sleeve is a top quality sleeve that has a great feel while providing some protection to the knee. The compression material makes for a very comfortable garment that doesn't move around while diving, jumping or running. The cushioning offer some protection to the knee cap and areas above and below, but not so much protection on the sides. This cushioning is quite thin and won't protect against big contacts on the ground, however I personally don't feel like I need too much cushioning as when you know the proper diving technique you shouldn't be hitting your knees on the court very hard. The extended length of the sleeve provides additional protection to the leg against court burn which I find to be very helpful, especially when rolling laterally. The profile of this sleeve is very mobile, having no restrictive impacts on your movements. The material is very breathable allowing you to stay cool and dry. This makes it difficult for the sleeve to hold in odours, keeping your knee pad fresh for longer. Once it does begin to smell, the knee pad is designed to go in the washing machine without it having any changes in shape or elasticity. I was very satisfied that the feeling and performance was the same after washing it multiple times.
Due to the thin and lightweight nature of the material, if hard repetitive contacts are made on the padding, occasionally some small tears can occur on the front of the padded material. Apart from this, the elasticity and durability of the rest of the sleeve remained perfect. It must be said that this is a thin mobile performance product so you will not go multiple years of regular playing without noticing some small tears or signs of wear around the padding material.
The knee sleeve comes in a wide variety of sizes ranging from S to XXL. I usually get 1 size smaller because I like the sleeve to be quite tight, but the great compression material ensures that it will fit nicely around your knee without sizing down.
I believe this is the most comfortable knee pad available because of its compressional material, slim profile and conservative padding. If you are looking for a knee pad that has a great fit and offers a small amount of protection then this is the perfect choice for you.
Comfort: 10
Durability: 7
Cushioning: 6
Profile: 9
Rating: 8/10
Pros
Extremely comfortable compression material
Slim profile perfect for mobility and performance
Wide range of sizes
Cons
Prone to small tears around the padding from the thin material
Only small amounts of cushioning
Slightly more expensive than other knee pads
My verdict: I found that this was the most comfortable knee pad I have worn. The compression material was very comfortable and the small amount of padding made them very mobile. That means a compromise on cushioning but if you like a more minimalist knee pad then this is perfect for you!
Value: $100 AUD - A bit expensive but a very good quality product!
